Job Description - CDMP® System Leader
Position Summary
The CDMP® System Leader provides a key role in maintaining long-term system success of CDMP® by providing intense system oversight of the CDMP® program. The CDMP® System Leader will provide education and support and mentoring at the system level, including but not limited to; onsite education, assisting with application of CDMP® during transition periods, and assisting with the collection and compiling of information reflective of outcomes associated with CDMP® from a system perspective. Must be able to respond and interact with all physicians and hospital staff in a collaborative and courteous manner. Understands the fundamentals of chart review and facilitates education for physicians and hospital staff.
The CDMP® System Leader is responsible for increasing program awareness (team members, CDMP® process, program benefits) to the entire hospital system. The CDMP® System Leader must fully understand data collection and analysis for system and individual hospital and physician profiling. The CDMP® System Leader will support ongoing communication and education on documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies to physicians and entire hospital system. Establish a system dashboard and processes.
The CDMP® System Leader will function as the Corporate Steering Committee (administration) chair and may participate in CDMP® Task Force (CDMP® team) meetings to provide all around oversight of the CDMP® program.
Major Roles and Objectives:
- Accountability for CDMP® success throughout the system
- Responsible for raising Case Mix Index (CMI) throughout the system
- Provide oversight and act as a resource for all CDMP® teams in the system
- Day-to-day intense oversight of the system CDMP® Program
- Facilitate hiring/mentoring/retention of CDMP® staff
- Management of the System Process Flow Map
- Manage multiple priorities
- Function as the CDMP® System Steering Committee Leader
- Collaborates with HIM leadership to utilize ICD-9-CM hospital coding policies and procedures, Federal and State coding reimbursement guidelines
- Attend Taskforce Meetings at the local level as needed
- Liaison from Task Force to Steering Committee
- Provide CDMP® Team, physicians, administration and Steering Committee ongoing feedback
- Coordinate, compile and share data reflecting the activity associated with CDMP® on an ongoing basis by facility and aggregate comparison reflecting system wide data
- Disseminate system CDMPTrak® reports
- Formulate action plans based on system CDMPTrak® results
- Provide necessary feedback and conflict resolution to CDMP® Team
- Develop strategies that address resistance to the program
- Track program successes/ ongoing opportunities
- Perform staff evaluations (if necessary)
- Promote longevity of program / facilitate active support by administration
Specifications:
- Organizational, analytical, writing and interpersonal skills
- Prior management experience
- Hospital experience
- Clinical and/or coding experience
- Excellent knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint
- Knowledge of Medicare Part A and Part B
- Knowledge of regulatory environment
- Understand and support CDMP® documentation strategies
- Understand and communicate differences between Medicare Part A and Part B guidelines and how they impact DRG assignments
- Able to travel to other facilities in the system
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Graduation from a program of nursing, BSN, preferred or Graduate of Health Information Management RHIT, RHIA preferred
- Current state Registered Nurse license or Certified Coding Specialist
