Job Description - CDMP® Manager
Position Summary
The CDMP® Manager provides a key role in facilitating long-term success of CDMP® by providing day-to-day intense oversight of the CDMP® program at the facility level. The CDMP® Manager will work in collaboration with the CDMP® team of clinicians, coding professionals, physicians, physician’s assistants’ and certified registered nurse practitioners to ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation in the medical record that supports the coding process in attaining appropriate DRGs based on sound clinical entries in the medical record.
The CDMP® Manager is responsible for increasing program awareness (team members, CDMP® process, program benefits) to the entire hospital staff. The CDMP® Manager must fully understand data collection and analysis for hospital and physician profiling. The CDMP® Manager will support ongoing communication and education on documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies to physicians and entire hospital staff.
The CDMP® Manager will function as the Steering Committee (administration) chair and participate in CDMP® Task Force (CDMP® team) meetings to provide all around oversight of the CDMP® program.
Major Roles and Objectives:
- Accountability for CDMP® Success
- Responsible for raising Case Mix Index (CMI)
- Day-to-day intense oversight of the CDMP® Program
- Develop a collaborative CDMP® team
- Management of the Process Flow Map
- Manage multiple priorities
- Function as the CDMP® Steering Committee Leader
- Attend Task Force meetings
- Liaison from Task Force to Steering Committee
- Provide CDMP® team, physicians, administration and Steering Committee ongoing feedback
- Create reports from CDMPTrak®
- Disseminate CDMPTrak® reports
- Formulate action plans based on CDMPTrak® results
- Provide necessary feedback and conflict resolution to CDMP® team
- Develop strategies that address resistance to the program
- Track program successes and ongoing opportunities
- Perform staff evaluations
- Promote longevity of program / maintain active support by administration
Skills Required:
- Organizational, analytical, writing and interpersonal skills
- Prior management experience
- Hospital experience
- Clinical and/or coding experience
- Excellent knowledge of Word/Excel/Power Point
- Knowledge of Medicare Part A and Part B
- Knowledge of regulatory environment
- Understand and support CDMP® documentation strategies
- Understand and communicate differences between Medicare Part A and Part B guidelines and how they impact DRG assignments
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Graduation from a program of nursing, BSN, preferred or Graduate of Health Information Management RHIT, RHIA preferred
- Current state Registered Nurse license or Certified Coding Specialist
